Vice-President

Lisa M. BarrettLisa received her B.A. in English from Elmhurst College and her M.A.E.D. in Adult Education/Curriculum and Instruction from University of Phoenix. Lisa has been passionately engaging English language learners for the past 8 years. Currently, Lisa works as an ELAP instructor at University of St. Francis in Joliet, an ESL instructor at Computer Systems Institute in Lombard, and an online English language coach for Rosetta Stone. Lisa has served on the ITBE board for several years as a Higher Education SIG Chair and Publicity Chair.
 

Member-at-Large (Vote for Three)

Carolina Bermúdez ParraCarolina received her B.A. in Elementary Education (Speciality: English) and her M.A in Counseling from Granada University (Spain). She is a bilingual teacher at Posen-Robbins 143.5 S.D. Carolina has taught ESL at primary schools since 2006. She has also worked in a volunteer program in Haití, Colombia and Brazil. She is now working on her Doctorate program in Applied Linguistics.
Taiqin DongTaiqin received her Bachelor’s degree in English from Shanxi University in China, and her Master’s degree, also in English, from Western Illinois University. She has taught various courses in ESL including Reading, Academic Writing, Listening and Speaking, and Business English. She has published journal articles in Teaching Forum, Education and Management and China Translator’s Journal; she also published text books which were used by many education institutions in China. She currently teaches business English at Computer Systems Institute. She also teachers Psychology of Aging & Chinese Culture and History at Benedictine University. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, the National Academic Honor and Professional Society of Gerontology, New Ventures in Leadership and the American Society on Aging.
Shane DunkleShane received his B.A. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in English Literature in 2001 and his M.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Linguistics/TESOL in 2012. He has been teaching ESL for over 10 years, half of which were spent in Japan and half of which were spent as an adjunct instructor at a community college in Palos Hills and is currently teaching ESL at Purdue University Calumet as a Visiting Instructor. He is very interested in what role culture plays in language acquisition and in better ways to teach prepositions. He is looking forward to promoting communication and networking within the higher education community in his position as the Higher Education SIG in ITBE and encourages members and non-members to contact him with any questions, comments or concerns.
Cory LongCory has been in the ESL/EFL field for about six years. He currently serves as the Technology Chair for ITBE, does adjunct work in the Chicago area, works in language testing, and does freelance content development work. Before coming to Chicago, he was living in Shanghai, where he did content development work and taught secondary students at the Shanghai Korean School. He got his MA TESOL from Ball State University in Muncie Indiana.
Angie MaffeoAngie is the director of the English Language for Academic Purposes program at the University of St. Francis. Since 2003, she has taught in intensive English language programs which prepare students for university-level studies. While still teaching, she is also enjoying the challenges of her role as a program director. Her goal is to understand the linguistic challenges unique to university students in order to help them achieve academic success.
Anastassia McNultyAnastassia's educational background is in Educational Studies with emphasis on Language acquisition and Teaching English as a Second Language. She received a PhD in Educational Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007. Anastassia McNulty is an Associate Professor of ESL in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Diversity in the College of Graduate and Innovative Programs at Concordia University Chicago. Her research interests are in the area of language acquisition and technology, assessment, pedagogy and bilingual education.
James RobinetteJames is the Administrative Director/Bilingual Director at Rhodes School. His previous experiences were as an English as a Second Language teacher, and Middle School SS/LA teacher at Rhodes School. He received his BA in Education and my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. Mr. Robinette also received a second Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. His teaching endorsements include SS, LA, General Science, ESL, and Middle School Teaching.
