POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Albany Park Community Center, an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity employer, needs an experienced part time Adult Education Coordinator to fill a position in our Adult Education Department.
DETAILS
A part time position is currently open beginning September or October 2008. The open assignment is Adult Education Coordinator which includes Monday through Thursday evenings, at minimum 5:00pm-9:30pm, with seven hours of flex time to be placed at discretion of employee, totaling 25 hours.*
POSITION PURPOSE:
Plans and supervises implementation of adult education programming for adult learners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
1.Assures quality of all services for all learners in adult education programs for the assigned site(s)/shift(s). Supervises or conducts intake, testing, goal setting, curriculum planning, and progress measures for adult literacy learners.
2.Manages professional teachers, support staff, department-wide services, and operations for the assigned site(s)/shift(s). Supervises staff and facilities.
3.Assists with coordination of programming within the Literacy Department. Contributes to maintenance and improvement of program quality and growth through supervision, proposal writing, curriculum development, and professional development.
4.Has primary responsibility for managing teachers in the assigned site(s)/shift(s).
5.Assists with program promotion and development. Represents the program/agency on selected external councils, coalitions, and other organizational partners.
6.Recommends and implements policies and procedures consistent with established precedent and agency standards. Makes recommendations re: staff and staffing patterns.
7.Increases own knowledge and skills in the field through professional development activities, some of which may be supported by the agency. Makes contributions to the knowledge and skills of other staff members.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Willingly assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Fluency in a foreign language is recommended.
* Of 25 hours total, presence required M, T, W, Tr 5:00-9:30pm (18 hours). Remainder of hours (7) are flex hours that can be logged anytime that adult education offices are open. Please note that during class break periods and on working holidays on which no classes are held (20-25 days per fiscal year) the building closes at 5:00pm. Work hours must be shifted to fit this time frame, or be forfeited. The building closes at 6:30pm on Fridays, 4:00pm Saturdays, and is closed entirely on Sundays.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
1.Bachelors’ degree required, Master's preferred, from an accredited institution, with a concentration in teaching ESL, Reading/Literacy, Adult Education, Special Education, Secondary Education, or related field.
2.At least five years of teaching experience in a similar setting is required. Administrative experience is preferred. Administrative, supervisory, leadership, and problem solving experience are also required.

Required: Ability to sit and look at a computer screen for long periods of time
Required: Ability to be physically mobile on a daily basis.
Required: Ability to climb stairs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures completion of evaluation activities.
Assigns volunteer classroom assistants.
