Instructor of English as a Second Language and International Student Supports Assistant (full-time, continuing)

Beloit College, a selective Liberal Arts College located on the Wisconsin-Illinois border, seeks a person to participate in our international education program as adjunct instructor of English as a Second Language.  This is a full-time, continuing position to begin August 2008.  As the College’s ESL instructor, the person teaches 3 units of ESL courses/year (each unit = 4 semester hours), 1 unit of TEFL for students who wish to teach abroad following graduation, and a 10-day orientation course for exchange students taking place in August.  Further, the ESL instructor serves as the academic advisor for the students in the exchange seminar and, working with the staff members in the Office of International Education, helps plan and implement orientations and other programming activities to help international students succeed personally and academically.  Beloit enrolls approximately 30 new international students (exchange and degree seeking) each year; these are the primary students with whom the instructor works.

The individual is a member of the staff of the Office of International Education, and will work particularly closely with the Director, the Assistant Director/International Student Advisor, and the International Education Intern.  Active cooperation with other administrative units and academic departments is expected in order to promote the integration of international students.  The Office of International Education is charged with facilitating campus internationalization efforts including study abroad and exchange programs, international student advising and services, support for faculty, staff and other resource development, curriculum development and the encouragement of a campus environment hospitable to international education.  The College and community offer a host family program for international students and there is an active international club on campus.

Minimum requirements for the position are an M.A. in ESL or applied linguistics, experience teaching ESL at the post-secondary level, demonstrated success in ESL curriculum development, and experience working with a diverse student body.  An understanding of the liberal arts environment, facilitation skills, and experience with international student programming are preferred.  The position requires the ability to work independently, initiate, and collaborate.

Please submit a letter of application addressing your qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae and three letters of reference to eslsearch@oie.beloit.edu .  The review of applications will begin February 15, 2008.  For further information, see www.beloit.edu.
