Project Coordinator
The Bilingual Transition to Teaching program is a federal Title II grant that partners the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) as fiscal and managing agent, with the Illinois Resource Center, Chicago Public Schools and Northern Illinois University. The primary goal of the grant is to train mid-career professionals to become classroom elementary bilingual teachers. This is done by recruiting, training, certifying and placing program scholars into teaching positions as teacher of record in partnering school districts. This position requires a self-motivated, energetic individual with a passion for bilingual education.
General responsibilities:
Under supervision of the Director, the full-time Project Coordinator is responsible for:
a) Identifying and facilitating the selecting of candidates for enrollment into the Bilingual Transition to Teaching program
b) Advising scholars, providing job placement assistance and serving as a support contact person from entrance into the program through completion of the program
c) Developing and maintaining a data collection process for project activity artifacts and scholar progress
d) Working with Local Education Agency Human Resources staff and/or Principals to identify candidate placement positions and sites
e) Developing and submitting project budget/grant applications to ISBE Division of English Language Learning
f) Facilitating the contracting of cohort courses with the university extension office
g) Coordinating scholar orientations, workshops and institutes
h) Communicating and disseminating information between project partners and scholars
i) Writing federal grants and all required State and Federal reports
j) Performing other duties as assigned
Experience/Skills needed:
Master's degree with studies or experience in education, or Bachelor's degree with multiple years of related experience. Good problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills; ability to work independently with various public constituents; ability to develop and maintain positive relations between all project partners and other interested parties; demonstrated skills with various computer programs (including word processing, database management and web-based programs); bilingual skills or ability to speak Spanish and knowledge about bilingual teacher certification is desirable and preferred; ability to travel in and out-of-state; ability to manage time and work independently.
