National-Louis University has five Chicago area campuses in downtown Chicago, North Shore (Skokie), Lisle, Wheeling and Elgin; and sites in Florida, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Nowy Sacz, Poland. NLU also offers many courses in a cluster format, on site at schools and office buildings.

The ESL/Bilingual Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is one of the largest and most esteemed providers of the courses leading to the Illinois approval in teaching ESL or Bilingual Education. The graduate level coursework, in turn, can be used by students who wish to continue on for a Master’s Degree or Certificate of Advanced Study in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on ESL and/or Bilingual Education. Faculty in the ESL/Bilingual Education program serve simultaneously as experts in second language acquisition and its related disciplines and as a major component of the department of Curriculum and Instruction.
We are seeking a colleague with an earned doctorate in ESL education, bilingual education, or a closely related field and experience using technology to enhance student learning. Candidate should demonstrate knowledge of standards-based assessment, a plan for active scholarship and research in the field of ESL/Bilingual Education, active commitment to diversity, and a profound understanding of second language acquisition. The candidate will be expected to deliver ESL and Bilingual Education approval coursework at various sites around Chicago and northern Illinois. In addition, the candidate will be expected to advise and assess students in the Curriculum and Instruction Masters Program and participate in other programmatic, departmental, college and university initiatives.
Other valued qualities include confidence with networked computer technology and teaching experience in diverse K-12 ESL and bilingual education settings. Biliteracy and bilingualism are also valued assets. The position is based in the Chicago and area but requires ground travel to meetings and teaching locations, which usually meet in the evening. Some responsibilities may occur during quarter breaks. Salary commensurate with experience.
