THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION

 

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator, English as a Second Language

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Coordinator of English as a Second Language is responsible for the daily supervision, coordination, and management of ESL functions and activities.

 

REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:

1. Direct reporting relationship to the Associate Dean, Adult Education.

 

2. Direct supervisory relationship with ESL instructional and support staff.

CLASSIFICATION LEVEL: Temporary

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Markets the ESL program to the community, including the development of flyers, brochures, and newspaper announcements.

 

2. Responds to requests about ESL classes from the community.

 

3. Oversees the ESL registration and assessment process, advisement, and retention of ESL students.

 

4. Develops and conducts an ESL orientation for all ESL students.

 

5. Assists in analysis of instructional data and preparation of reports as needed.

 

6. Coordinates ESL programs with other adult education project/programs, and with community-based agencies.

 

7. Works with the Associate Dean in improving ESL programs and ESL course development.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Attends all Adult Education department meetings and staff development functions.

 

2. Performs other duties as assigned, as appropriate, by the Associate Dean in addition to delineated responsibilities.

 

3. Establishes linkages with local, regional, and state resources.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in ESL, Education, English, or related field and two years experience teaching ESL at the adult level.

 

2. Bilingual-English/Spanish.

 

3. Demonstrated ability of current methods and techniques of teaching ESL to adults.

 

4. Experience in grant-funded project management.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s degree in ESL, Education, English or related field.

 

2. Two years management/supervisory experience.

 

3. Experience in conducting staff development activities.

 

4. Experience at a community college.

 

5. Evidence of organizational ability in a task-oriented setting.

 

Hours: 19 hours per week; flexible schedule with some evening hours to accommodate academic calender.

 

Salary: $18 per hour
