experienced ESL instructors to deliver TEFL training courses to our students.
You will need to adapt our curriculum to build upon your strengths as an ESL
teacher.
You will teach our onsite TEFL Professional Course at our Chicago location.
The course follows a 30 day calendar. Classes meet 4 hours per day
M – F.
Classes are scheduled in four hour sessions between the hours of
10 – 4 pm
12 – 4 pm
4 – 8 pm
Our curriculum is highly interactive and requires the
instructor to be well-prepared and creative. This is a part-time teaching
position with set classroom hours. Positions available
from September 2009.
Open Positions:
Primary Instructor Positions: Responsible for instruction of theory, methods
and technique including instruction on grammar and lesson planning.
Primary Instructor will also coordinate with Assistant Instructor on
daily practice activities and group work to be completed.
Assistant Instructor Positions: Responsible for running interactive activities
and labs around lesson planning and methods. Intensive interactive
practice activities and practical tips will be the focus. Implementing
the activities and group work outlined by Primary Instructor.
Substitute Instructors: Instructors available for substitute work as either
Primary Instructor or Assistant Instructor.
TEFL Practicum Supervising Instructor: Responsible for the supervision of TEFL
Practicum at TEFL Institute. Duties involve recruitment of ESL students,
supervising student teaching by TEFL students, providing feedback and
observation to TEFL students.
TEFL Institute Chicago Certification courses are held monthly.
Opportunities for on-going contract work are available for qualified
applicants. TEFL Institute is committed to the on-going evaluation and quality
of instructors. Detailed support and evaluations will be provided by the
Course Manager.
The instructor is not only knowledgeable about ESL teaching methods but also a
strong coach, facilitator, or advisor to the students. Our ideal candidates
will have lived abroad and taught English overseas. You will bring your
experiences of living abroad as well as your ESL teaching experiences to enrich
the course content and student learning experience. In addition, you will be
eager to provide constructive comment and feedback on interactive teaching
methods centered on the Balanced Communicative Approach utilizing the PPP
principles of Presentation, Practice, and Production. Your class will be
composed of highly motivated individuals eager to learn and travel abroad.
Our instructors are a valuable part of our organization. They are supported by
our Student Services team along with our Training Consultants who are PhD's
from area colleges and universities located near TEFL Institute home office in
Chicago. Instructors will prepare and facilitate the 100 hour TEFL Professional
certification course using curriculum developed by TEFL Institute. The class
takes 30 days to complete. Class sizes are up to 12 students.

- Job Search Assistance
Your Main Responsibilities
-Develop weekly lesson plan incorporating TEFL Institute curriculum
-Focus on Student Centered Learning and Interactive Activities
- Daily Class M – F following weekly schedule.
- Grade written assignments and offer constructive feedback to the students.
- Enhance the classroom experience through your own experience as an ESL
teacher which relate directly to course material and expand student’s knowledge
beyond the textbook.
- Feedback that is constructive and encourages the other students to comment on
each assignment in a robust peer-to-peer learning environment.
- Provide roadmap and guidelines on course goals and modules.
- Report weekly to Course Manager on progress, student grades and use of course
materials
Requirements for this Position
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
- B.Ed, MEd, MA TESOL or
higher is highly preferred, most of our instructors are at the PhD level
although we do have a number of MA level instructors on staff
- 2 or more years of overseas teaching experience is highly preferred
- Ability to relate to students about your experience as an ESL teacher and/or
living abroad
- Organized and prepared
- Comfortable with lesson planning, teacher training, feedback and interactive
learning
- Committed to your students learning how to Teach English as a Foreign
Language
Pay and Related Compensation
$20 - $30 per hour of classroom instruction. Instructor pay levels will
be set in advance based on experience and expertise. TEFL Institute
instructors work as part-time contract employees.
