English as a Second Language Instructor

 

for the YWCA Elgin

Adult Education & Family Literacy Program

 

Reports to: Adult Education and Family Literacy Director

General Function:  To provide English-Only instruction to limited English speaking adults of all nationalities.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Instructional – Provide English only instruction, teaching all four skills: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening to adult ESL students – guided by YWCA Elgin curriculum and the particular needs/goals of students.

 

2. Professional – Work with colleagues and superiors to follow procedures and collaborate, continually work on one’s own professional development (with a minimum of 6 hours in Adult Ed completed per fiscal year,) and be an example of professionalism to adult students.

 

3. Record-Keeping/Student Services – Maintain complete and accurate paperwork related to teaching plans and each student in class, and submit necessary paperwork in a timely manner.

 

* In addition to this job description, staff supported by grant funds are required to adhere to and comply with all provisions, qualifications, policies, and procedures set forth in the grant.  In the event that the grant requirements contradict or add to the job description, the requirements of the grant will take precedence.

 

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor Degree required, preferably in English, Education, Foreign Language, Linguistics or related field. ESL teaching experience highly preferred.
