Elementary Poetry Contest Awards for Students
First place winners will receive $30 worth of books from Scholastic Books.
Second Place winners receive $20 worth of books from Scholastic Books.
(Students will choose the books they want & receive them at the awards ceremony.)
Best of the Best
The first place winners will compete for the Best 2nd grade poem. The winner will receive a pre-selected set of poetry books appropriate for 2nd graders.

a free membership to ITBE for one year.

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the IL-TESOL Convention. Refreshments and cookies will be served for those attending the awards ceremony. Winning sponsoring teachers, winning students, & family members are welcome to attend the award ceremony. Time of the event is to be determined.

Who can submit entries? Who can enter the contest?
- The contest is open to any teacher that works in the state of Illinois. The sponsoring teacher does NOT need to be a member of ITBE.
- As in previous years the student must be receiving ELL or bilingual services during the 2014-2015 school year. The sponsoring teacher is the person who provides the child’s services.
- Teachers will be given a rubric, score sheet, &, for some poems, worksheets.
- Teachers will be expected to pick their top 5 poems for each genre of poetry.
- If a teacher teaches more than one grade then he/she can submit poems for each grade she teaches. (For example, Mrs. Gigous teaches 2nd & 3rd graders. She can submit 10 Acrostic poems (5 for 2nd grade & 5 poems for 3rd grade. Mrs. Gigous may also submit 10 Bio poems, 10 Diamante poems, 10 Haiku poems, & 10 open poems.)
